The new, ultra-chic club inside Steve Wynn's new Encore hotel. Destined to change the shape of nightclubbing in Las Vegas...
The club is trying to emulate the round-the-clock party scene of St. Tropez on the French Riviera. It will combine the nightclub experience with the Euro-style poolside experience.
XS is closed on Sundays but the party moves outdoors for their Poolside Sundays. This is an evening party that goes on into the wee hours. Dress is beachwear.
This supposedly $100 million dollar nightclub will have 40,000 square feet of space although it will open out in stages towards the pool area so the the club won't look so cavernous when it isn't full. This is in collaboration with Victor Drai of Drai's After-Hours and Tryst at the Wynn.
From a LowLife "Know It A.L.L." posting:
XS is the new, aptly named nightclub in the new, aptly named hotel called Encore. Encore is the first Las Vegas Strip resort that is making their nightclub (and their Euro-style pool) the centerpiece of the hotel.
Steve Wynn looked at the numbers and figured that with Vegas nightclubs doing $700 million dollars per year and his own club in Wynn--Tryst--pulling down around $40 mil. annually (with profit margins of 70%), maybe it was time to look at a different approach to the Las Vegas nightlife scene (although Encore does feature Danny Gans so Wynn didn't junk the idea entirely). “That’s not something I would have understood 10 or 12 years ago,” said Wynn.
Victor Drai, the man who started Drai's After-Hours and turned Tryst into an extremely successful club owns a third of XS. He says his clubs haven't been affected by the economy and he doesn't expect XS to have problems. “This is our best year ever. We’re at the top of our game,” he said. Wynn, himself, visited San Tropez on the French Riviera to take a look at their non-stop-except-for-naps party scene.
So look for XS to have a different vibe than a typical LV club with the pool atmosphere flowing into the dinner party, then into the club scene, then maybe a little more chow and then more clubbin'--perhaps on one of the twelve stripper poles in XS. The only thing missing from the St. Tropez vibe is there's nowhere to park the yachts. I guess we'll leave the LowLife dinghy tied up at Lake Mead...
