"Fun & Good"
We had heard about Capo's from a couple of different friends who said that we just gotta try the place so we finally did. Capo's really gets into their "Godfather" theme starting from the moment you walk into the antechamber and knock on the door. That's right, you just can't walk into a mafia hangout, of course, you have to be "approved" by the guy behind the door who slides the little viewing plate over, eyes you up and down and nods in approval, opening the door for you to enter (luckily, they approved us, perhaps knowing I'm a "made" guy!).
The atmosphere was definitely out of a Godfather movie complete with a horse head on the wall and the requisite Sinatra music playing in the background. We went on a Tuesday so missed the singer who walks around the place Wednesday through Sunday. Normally we don't care much for crooners during dinner but since we were in the mafia mood, it would have been fun to experience it (or, perhaps, witness a gangland killing) but we had to settle for the good food and the friendly staff.
The Mrs. had the veal parm and rated it very good (but not excellent) and I had one of their house specialties, something called "Chicken Lucchese" which was basically a chicken picatta with a cheese broccoli on top. Mine was excellent and I would definitely have it again.
We got out of there, including a bottle of Chianti and after-dinner cappuccinos, for about $135 (including tip) which, considering the food and atmosphere, we felt was a pretty good deal.
LowLife Note: While we didn't utilize it on this night, we were told of a "secret stairway" on the way to the restrooms. While it's ostensively an upstairs smoking lounge, it doesn't get used a lot and our friends actually had sex up there overlooking the patrons below. Some info LowLifes can use...
