Mandalay Bay has concerts and other events around their large wave pool, especially during the summer months. The concerts are casual with concert-goers laying on their beach towels in the sand or standing knee-deep in water in the pool itself.

"Fun Concert Venue"

Mandalay Bay has a series of summer concerts at their very large wave pool and we always look forward to them. There's something about flip flops and bikini tops, holding cups of liquid refreshment while standing in water looking up at the performers (although much of the audience is lounging on beach towels on the Mandalay Beach).

While the concerts are generally less expensive than a typical concert they are also usually a bit shorter, too. But we like the atmosphere of being able to roam around in our beach clothes, drink in hand, chatting with friends and future friends with top notch party music playing in the background (they have excellent canned music prior).

We recently attended the Pink and Everclear concerts and both had good sound quality and despite the fact the performers are staged higher up than a normal concert, it still felt very intimate, perhaps because the artists were very relaxed, a reaction to the party atmosphere.

We also attended something called a Rock n Roll Wine Amp'd Festival which was supposed to be a wine tasting event combined with rock music. The music was great but the wine part sucked. While not wine snobs, we expected quite a bit more than the cheapest wines from most of the 35 vineyards represented. We even had a couple of the booths apologize to us for bringing their rot-gut varietals, saying that the organizers felt it would be an unsophisticated crowd so not to worry with the finer bottles.

Well, I'm not sure how sophisticated our group was but we constantly grimaced and wrinkled our faces when tasting the offerings, and that after having to wait in a long line.

Mandalay Beach does concerts right but they need help with their wine tastings. There are plenty of other ones in town that are far superior.
