"Coyote UGLY is Right."
Having been to the New York City club of the same name I had high hopes for the Vegas version. Boy, was I let down. The NYC bar is delightfully dingy, packed with men and women who were laughing and drinking and having genuine conversation and staffed with sassy female bartenders who would occasionally get on stage and incite the crowd through humor, free drinks, good-hearted humiliation and even sing an occasional popular song now and then (both of the pop and bawdy variety).
The Vegas version was anything but fun. Yes, I knew the seedy interior would have to be manufactured so that was the least of my disappointments. While the NYC "Ugly" bartending ladies may not have been the hottest looking gals in the world (they were attractive, but not nearly up to the Hollywood version), they had a fun and playful personality that added to the overall ambience of the bar, a bar that could have stood on it's own even without the outspoken employees.
The Las Vegas version seems to have, forgotten the real selling point of the original. Instead, it's a bunch of guys drinking beers and waiting for the next woman to get on stage and verbally abuse them. The ladies didn't bartend, sing or do much else except heap on the insults, all the while surrounded by two burly security guards on each side of them.
It all seemed pretty negative to me...
