Purchased by Michael Gaughan (the original owner of the Barbary and Gold Coast Casinos) and name-changed to South Point in October of '06. The gourmet restaurant, Michael's, has moveed from the Barbary Coast to South Point.
Some amenities include a 16-screen Century Theatre movie complex, 64-lane bowling center and a handful of restaurants that cater to all appetites and tastes. The casino features a large selection of table games and the latest slot machines.
Perhaps the main draw is the top notch equestrian center which no other casino in town has.
The nightclub at SouthPoint offers Salsa on Thursdays at 8:00, rock band is on Saturdays at 10:00 and Purple Reign at 10:00 (Prince cover band). Entertainment only Thurs., Fri., and Saturday and no cover for all three.

"Good Value"
I played at the (then) South Coast the week it opened, and stayed there in August and again in November (as the South Point) and played there again a few weeks ago. I find the building to be very attractive, fresh and clean. The rooms are spacious, with comfortable beds, plasma TV's, and nice bathrooms. I agree that casino has a "a vast expanse of openness" and the poker "room" is a bit of a joke. But, as I'm a BJ guy - blackjack, get your minds out of the gutter I have found the dealers, and the clientele there to be very friendly. To me, this is the main reason that I'll play at a particular casino. Miserable dealers and I'm outa there!
The restaurants are large, open spaces, but the food is good. The Coronado Cafe is surprising good, and I find the buffet pretty decent.
I have to assume that the South Point didn't quite turn out exactly as Michael Gaughan would have wanted. Now that it's all his, I assume it will keep getting better.
With better highway access I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

"Warehouse Casino?"
While the outside isn't too bad, the inside looks like it could have been either a Sam's Club or a Costco. It's just a vast expanse of openness with slot machines, chairs and table games plopped down throughout. The restaurants look similar--just open spaces with tables and chairs next to each other with no faux semi-private areas. The poker room isn't really a room at all but more like part of the hallway that leads to the escalators to the movie complex upstairs.
I guess I thought Coast Casinos was going to make this hotel their flagship much like Stations has done with Red Rock Casino. Instead it looks like it was done on the cheap with very little imagination.
