"KA, the unprecedented new theatrical show from Cirque du Soleil at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, brings together astonishing acrobatic performances, the thrills and action of martial arts from all over the world, plus amazing innovations in puppetry, multimedia and pyrotechnics. Together, they tell the epic story of a set of twins on a perilous journey to fulfill their shared destiny. KA brings the visual language of cinema to a dazzling live event that is more about storytelling than any previous Cirque production. The show's underlying theme of duality is underscored by the opposing powers of fire to create and to destroy."
Tickets $99-$200
Friday-Tuesday, 7PM and 10:30PM
Update: From Mike Weatherford of the Review-Journal (1/3/08):
"Cirque du Soleil is making several changes to "Ka," which is perceived to be the weak link in the five-show dynasty on the Strip. Attendance is strong compared to most non-Cirque titles, but "Ka" is the most expensive Cirque -- it cost at least $165 million to open in late 2004 -- and less-than-capacity attendance doesn't amortize it any quicker.
Last year, the producers cut one act, in which stunt performers jumped from one log stump to another, because it slowed the pace of the show. A new "aerial strap" act was added to the "forest people" scene before Christmas, and additional tweaks to that sequence are continuing this month.
Another entirely new number is due for "Ka" midyear, when the specialty act becomes available."
"A key example of technology and art coming together in a comfortable, complementary way. The stage at Cirque du Soleil's fourth concurrent show is the star, performing stunning feats of hydraulic magic, such as transforming from a three-dimensional boat to the side of a mountain before your eyes. Cirque changes scenes in ways that are as amazing as the acrobatics that tell the story of twins being separated by evil forces.
Price: Starts at $69"

"The Brain Gets Restless"
From Karen D'Souza of Mercury News
"'Kà' Epic unplugged. The eye may be on total sensory overload from the first moment of "Kà" to the last, but alas, the brain gets a tad restless. Rest assured, "Kà" offers plenty of pure visual spectacle, but it's not even remotely in the same class of art as Robert Lepage's earlier works, such as the sublime solo "Far Side of the Moon." This show is multimedia for its own sake, instead of in the service of some deeper truth. That said, there is nothing wrong with indulging in some bungee-jumping, extreme archery and martial arts pyrotechnics every once in a while, right? Lepage subverts our expectations about gravity by kicking out the floor of the stage and letting the action unfold in one dimension (horizontal) and then another (vertical), until the athletics of the show become mind-boggling. If you want to take a little mental vacation and get your visceral on, "Kà" is the place."

"One of our favorite shows in Vegas"
Okay, I'm a little confused. In reading others' reviews of Ka, you'd think this is a lower-end Cirque show with lack of a story, etc. Our experience was completely different, we enjoyed it so much we went and saw it again a week later with our daughter!
My main complaint with most Cirque shows is that trying to track any semblence of a story is a joke. Not so with Ka, it is more story-centric that any other Cirque shows I've scene. There's a clear beginning, middle and the happy ending. The set is very cool, and the technical achievement of the moving stage platform (spins, goes vertical into a wall, arrows popping out, etc.) is incredible. We were lucky enough to sit fifth row center (on special $50 tickets no less!), and fell consumed by the show. We were up close, we felt in the middle of the action.
Maybe it's because we're into the Japanese/Asian influence on the show, costumes and music. We are big on this show, and would take our friends to it. We HIGHLY it, and would easily pick it over, say Mystere, which I feel is getting old. (See my Mystere review for more info.)

"Circ de So So"
What a disappointment after seeing O and Mystere! I gave an employee a choice of any show in Vegas but had no idea Ka would be so blah after seeing other Circ shows. Not at all worth neither the money or time. Treat yourself and go elsewhere. Mr Hi Des
