Inside the Mandalay Bay, near Mandalay Place

Ivan Kane's burlesque nightclub mirrored after the famous L.A. Club.

If you've been to the club, it sounds like things are changing a bit, at least music-wise:
(From Mike Weatherford of the Review-Journal)
"Ivan Kane made retro burlesque a hot trend a few years ago with his Forty Deuce clubs in Hollywood and at Mandalay Bay. But not everyone's into nostalgia and besides, you can't sit still in the nightclub business. Ivan Kane's Royal Jelly debuted at the Las Vegas location last week as a Thursday night attraction, with Aug. 30 considered the grand opening.

Royal Jelly replaces back-alley strip-joint jazz with classic rock and appropriately trashy dancer attire. The vocals from the original rock tracks are blended with live guitar, bass and drums. ..."

"Major Disappointment"

I was expecting quit a bit more from this place. The burlesque wasn't burlesque at all, just two attractive gals with nice, shaking butts running around on stage doing their impression of Miss Fitness America while flinging off some of their clothes (no, nudity) now and then. No teasing, no audience interaction, just a loud tenor sax, stand up bass and a drummer pumping out speeded-up versions of the traditional sassy songs you might expect and the girls doing a frenetic dance routine to them.

The, place is quite small, perhaps seating 50-60 total in two sections--the "commoners" portion up near the bar/dancer runway and the VIP buy-an-expensive-bottle section. The first show, scheduled at 11:30 got started at 11:45 and may have lasted 30 minutes total, which included both dancers and the band's filler in between. The next show was scheduled for 1:00 a.m. and since the house music was so loud it effectively limited conversation and with no dance area for patrons to boogie, most people, decided to head out.

"Read this before going!"

We attended Forty Duece last Friday. We paid the 20.00 cover, no problem. Then we were informed the Burlesque show would not start until 12:30, 2hrs from when we entered. Ok, no problem. Finally the girls came out, the band struck up the music and it was fantastic! We can't stress enough how great a show it was. It lasted all of 20 minutes, and had the place rockin'. It is now 12:50, and we wanted more. We asked the host when the next show was and he said 3:00 am! WTF!!!!!!!!!!! We couldn't believe it! We have never felt so F-ed over in our lives. What a scam.!!!!
