The Strip and Tropicana

The black pyramid with the sideways inclinators (not elevators). The hotel features a popular nightclub, entertainment and a good steakhouse.
The suites are often inexpensive and the hottubs are raised and have a good view.

News regarding Luxor's renovation:
"While they can't do much about the pyramid shape (although they did consider implosion), Luxor owners MGM Mirage have decided to spend $300 million to upgrade the interior of the hotel, removing most everything that has anything to do with Egypt (the original hotel cost $375 mil. to build in 1993).
Our favorite place to meet LowLifes staying at the Luxor, Nefertiti's, is now fancier and called the Aurora Lounge, and a trendy new nightclub, LAX, an off-shoot of the Los Angeles nightspot of the same name, opens Labor Day weekend.
The kiddie stuff on the 2nd floor will soon be gone and a restaurant and "European-style" lounge (whatever that is--sounds expensive, though) called CatHouse will open in the fall (guess ya can't have kids hanging around a cathouse, can ya?).
It sounds like it's gonna be so happenin' that you'll think you're in a pyramid-shaped Hard Rock or Palms. Pretty soon we'll be parking at the Mandalay and walking over to the Luxor instead of vice versa."

"Not Bad."

The pyramid thing is kind of neat, especially the elevators that move at an angle ("inclinators"), they have some pretty good bargains on suites and it's next door to the Mandalay (connected by a walkway) so that's all good but overall it's a, pretty unexciting place to hang.
There IS a bar to the far right past the check-in counter that's good for meeting hook-ups (forgot the name just now).

"TnA's Luxor Review"

We stayed in a Premier Tower Suite, which was pretty nice, coming in at 1k sqft.. Room had a living room, dining room with granite-topped full bar & a master bedroom w/king-sized bed. Master bath had seperate shower and an oversized jetted tub which was nice (especially for you ladies that shave your legs...). Room looked somewhat dated, cd soundsystem in living room did not work and our other gripes is that there was not a seperate bathroom in the foyer area or a microwave. The TV's were a little fuzzy at times and we had a rental movie comp'ed due to the soundtrack being off by a second or two (dialogue was done but the lips were still moving...).

The Luxor has some good clubs but LAX is not one of them. While it's hyped to be like a premier LA style nightclub, it falls far short. We were in a VIP balcony section, which was very roomy but overall, the club just has a terrible floorplan. LAX just has too much room reserved for VIP's, leaving only the dancefloor for the non-VIP's to stand on, so therefore there was no room for dancing. The bartenders were accurate with our drink orders but slow, which I'm sure is a result of the overcrowding. The music was just okay, not bad, not good. Overall, I could not recommend this club to anyone as there are definately better clubs on the strip.

Cathouse was great. Hands down the best Luxor has to offer. It is a smaller club, much more intimate than most of the clubs we attended, but cozy & comfortable nonetheless. We never felt crowded. Dance floor is a little tight but there is a lot more room for socializing off of the dancefloor. Waitstaff and bartenders were superb, as was the bounce staff. Overall, I would highly recommend Cathouse to all friends.

Aurora was pretty good. Gets a little crowded during peak check-in times as it's right off of the registration area but that's somewhat expected. Tables could use an extra seat or two and the seats were mildly uncomfortable with a little too much vertical angle in the seat-back, forcing you to have perfect posture. Overall, I would recommend this lounge.

Flight was comfortable and cozy for afternoon and early evening lounging. Flight sported both chairs and couches of which I have no complaints or room for improvement offers. Bar staff was good but wish it [the bar] was a little larger, as it's somewhat difficult to get an order in when the bar is packed. Worst part about flight is its (far too close) proximity to LAX. LAX patrons end up using it as a staging area for access to LAX, which makes navigating in Flight almost impossible from 10pm to midnight. Overall, I would recommend Flight but only for afternoon or early evening socializing.

I have no complaints regarding any of the restaurants in Luxor, we always received our orders accurately & in a timely fashion. This is including the the fast food establishments on the 2nd floor area.

with warmest regards,

"Cheap & friendly but lots of construction"

As of end of July 2008 when we stayed there, the Luxor was undergoing very extensive renovations. There was lots of noise from the pounding and drilling/sawing! But, I'm sure that it'll look great when its done (and I cant wait to see the BODIES Exhibit!) Although the hotel's rooms were not affected at all by the construction, it was often hard to navigate the casino/lounge area. The hotel rooms were cheap for Vegas and the bed comfortable. Room service was friendly and helpful. With so many attractions nearby and within easy access (Excalibur, Mandalay Bay, New York New York, Tropicana and MGM) it was well worth the stay there.
