Rowdy Golf League Coming to Vegas
The National Golf League sounds like fun...
"Targeted to the 18-to-35-year-old crowd, the league endorses its fans drinking beer, yelling at players in between shots, and players bantering back and forth. In fact, players wear microphones on their lapels so the crowd can hear every comment they make during a match."

All-Star Culture Clash
The effects of the All-Star game continue to reverberate through the town. One black columnist from Kansas City had this to say: "I don't care if you were black or white, it was an intimidating environment," he said. "You always felt like anything was a possibility. And I don't think white people saying that is an expression of racism. There was loud cussing, they were loudly using the N-word, smoking lots of marijuana, talking disrespectfully of anybody they felt like. You just felt like anything could happen." More reactions.

All-Star Blues; Barkley Pole Dances
While the NBA All-Star game and associated festivities brought in about 85,000 people and netted Las Vegas around $90 mil., all was not rosy.
NFL player questioned in strip club shooting. (Club sources told us his friend pulled the trigger.)
Crime, traffic & airport delays and, worst of all, poor tipping.
At least Charles Barkley had fun pole dancing.

Either way, if you missed it the first time, get in on Ice's second "no, seriously, we're totally closing, dude" party! On Saturday, February 24, Michael Fuller, aka The Funkler, will spin one last set on the hallowed Ice decks. Lohan to Party in Vegas for 21st
According to gossip columnist Norm Clark, Lindsey Lohan will be paid well to celebrate her 21st birthday in Las Vegas.
"Pure Nightclub is close to finalizing a deal to host Lindsey Lohan's 21st birthday party. Lohan, one of Hollywood's hottest young stars, turns 21 on July 2, a Monday. To land Lohan, Pure likely matched or exceeded the reported $250,000 the club paid to have Britney Spears host Pure's New Year's Eve seven weeks ago."
All this depends on successful drug rehab, of course.

If you bought tickets to a supposed Jay-Z party tonight (Saturday) at Ice, it appears you might have been scammed.
Says Vegas gossip columnist Norm:
"Music mogul Jay-Z filed an affidavit Friday seeking an immediate injunction to shut down a party at Ice nightclub, which had advertised that he was hosting the event today. "He just ponied up $10,000 to stand behind the fact this party is bogus," said Las Vegas attorney Robert Reynolds. "This is a huge misappropriation of his name, likeness and trademark."
(Ice was officially shut down last year but occasionally re-opens for special events)

NFL Snobishness Towards Vegas
As we noted in an earlier Know It A.L.L., the NFL's crackdown on Super Bowl parties across the country is a direct result of their feelings and dealings with Las Vegas. While the NFL thinks our allowance of sports betting is evil, Vegas feels that:
1) The NFL wouldn't be nearly as popular without people betting on it.
2) People will always bet on football--Las Vegas has simply organized and regulated it and is actually a watchdog over illegal betting, always on the lookout for possible fixes and payoffs.
|
|
NFL Meanies
You may wonder why there aren't large, pay-per-entry Super Bowl parties at some of these casinos (like there used to be). You may also wonder why more places don't have huge TV screens showing the game or why large viewing rooms are divided into several smaller rooms. Well, we call it the "Las Vegas Rule" since the NFL went after our Super Bowl parties a few years ago...
