While Miami hosts the Super Bowl, Las Vegas is going to have some kick-ass Super Bowl parties. And the NBA All-Star weekend here in town will be absolutely huge!

La Femme, the sexy revue at the MGM, has decided to get closer to their roots and will change their name to Crazy Horse Paris. No word if there will be a legal challenge by Crazy Horse Too gentleman's club.

Chocolate fondue, hot cocoa, chocolate truffles--most anything chocolate--can be had at Ethel's Chocolate Lounge inside the Fashion Show Mall. So, if you groove on caramel apples, chocolate covered strawberries or any of Ethel M's famous chocolates then you'll love her lounge--sort of a Starbucks for chocolate lovers.

The Pearl, the new, state-of-the-art music venue opening at the Palms in April was going to have Gwen Stefani be the first act in the place but now Evenescence will open a few days prior to Gwen. But Gwen is still the official grand opening act. Except she won't be the first act to play The Pearl. It's all a matter of semantics, I guess...

Just in time for the Super Bowl...
First there was the now-commonplace sports book, then the drive-through sports books and now there's self-service betting kiosks popping up in casinos throughout Las Vegas.

Michael Jordan, Britney, Judy Garland, Charo, Paul Newman, Carmen Electra, Sinatra, Bon Jovi, Angelina, Richard Gere, Elvis. What do all of those celebs have in common? Watching the Super Bowl in Las Vegas can be more fun than being at the game. 1) You can bet on the game and hundreds of proposition bets and 2), the lines to the rest rooms aren't nearly as long!

The Super Bowl is yet another excuse for a big party here in Las Vegas. While the NFL doesn't like Las Vegas because of the gambling aspect, it doesn't stop people from betting on the game. The Colts have opened as a 7 point favorite over the Chicago Bears.
Remember, you can bet while you are in town and, if you win, it's legal to mail in your ticket and receive the winnings back via mail.

Macau, near Hong Kong, has overtaken Las Vegas as the world's number one gambling market. Las Vegas gambling entities Wynn, MGM and Sands have all moved in and it appears the sky is the limit.

A gaggle of Miss America hopefuls have arrived in Las Vegas and will be showing up all over town for the next several days making appearances in association for the upcoming pageant to hosted by Dancing with Stars finalist Mario Lopez. The final event will be aired live from the Aladdin Hotel Monday night (1/29).

While not specifically pertaining to Las Vegas, this is a list of the Top 100 DJ's worldwide and many of them make their way to the top Las Vegas nightclubs so be on the lookout for them.

While you and I always break even (at least) in the casinos, those other poor fools don't seem to be sharing our luck. Nevada casinos had a record year with the larger casinos netting over $24 bil.
It was also the second year that non-gaming revenue was higher than gaming rev. Additionally, Strip room occupancy was up to 94% and room rates rose from $125/night to $137.

While we're not in favor of a trend that started a few years ago--the concept that you can only sit down in a Vegas nightclub if you buy a table/bottle--there are a few places to sit in many of the clubs. You just have to know where to look...

It's always amazing to us to consider that a city with our population and an airport of McCarran's size and convenient proximity is the 5th busiest airport in the United States again, just behind LAX.

While it's actually been open for a short while, the Revolution Lounge and the Abbey Road Bar at the Mirage will have it's official grand opening Thursday (1/18). The lounge is the place to go before seeing the new Cirque du Soleil show "Love" and then it really starts happening afterwards. The bar is a Cirque meets Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds type of thing.

The Miss American Pageant is returning to Las Vegas once again and this year's host will be Dancing With the Stars runner up Mario Lopez. The show will be broadcast from the Aladdin Hotel on January 29th.
While Mario can dance he can't sing so we'll hear a Bert Parks recording of "There She Is...".

The new AAA awards have been announced and Las Vegas scored big (again)! Fourteen local restaurants and two Las Vegas hotels have been added to the roster of AAA Four Diamond Awards, ranking the city -- now with 27 -- second only to New York in number of Four Diamond restaurants.

For awhile there were so many high rise condo projects announced for Vegas that it seemed unbelievable. And it was. Yet another condo bites the dust. If you put a deposit down on a Sandhurst condo downtown, expect your money back one of these days as they are returning $7mil. to the early birds.

The Broadway hit comedy "Monty Python's Spamalot", which is scheduled to open at the Wynn on March 31st, has finally signed it's King Arthur, Mr. Peterman of Seinfeld fame.
Ticket prices were also announced and, amazingly enough, they will start at $49, bucking a trend of mega-priced shows.

The anticipation has been building at an frenzied pace and is about to reach climax, so to speak. All those actresses nominated for the award for Best Anal Scene or Best Gang Bang will finally know if they've reached the pinnacle of industry achievement. Dethroned Miss Nevada USA has landed on her feet and even though "she's not that kind of girl", Katie Rees will be part of the madness that is Beacher's Madhouse (Hard Rock). She has signed a 2 year, $2 million deal for a show described as "Cirque du Soleil meets Girls Gone Wild".

In an annual nationwide survey, the top two brands are Google and...(drum roll, please)...Las Vegas! We beat out such names as Sony, iPod and even Oprah. The next highest city was Rio at #32.

Sure Las Vegas is great place to work on your tan during a long sunny season but sometimes it get pretty cold and even snows once in awhile. Warning: It's about to get pretty darn cold, at least by our standards. Weekend lows could reach the teens and we could see snow on the Strip (not that kind!). Bundle up!

On Wednesday morning we posted a story in Know It A.L.L. about Miss Nevada and yet another instance of her misbehaving at a different nightclub. One of the links was to a site with the original, unedited photos, some of her glamour photos and a supposed video link. We have just been told that the video had a virus associated with it (it wouldn't run for us so we never actually saw it--perhaps our virus software stopped us from viewing it as we weren't hit).

The photos themselves were fine (very fine, in fact) but if you clicked on the video and didn't have adequate virus protection you may have been affected by it.

If you have anti-virus software and tried to download the video we suggest you do a virus scan and see if anything comes up. A really good FREE anti-virus program is from AOL. You only need to create an AOL e-mail account which, as of a few months ago, is now also free.

Go to AOL Security Center and download the software if you don't have something similar. We've been using it for quite awhile and it's actually very good.

Sorry if this affected anyone. We got carried away by seeing Miss Nevada acting like she was in Girls Gone Wild. We will be more careful from now on.

Sounds like the new owners of the Tropicana Hotel have decided to demolish most of the ol' gal later this year and create a huge resort with over 10,000 rooms! By contrast, the MGM has over 5,000 rooms and once the Venetion building is complete it'll "only" have 7,000+ rooms.
